Roles
DevOps as a Service, on a Monthly Subscription
DevOps on a subscription covers CI/CD pipelines, Docker-based infrastructure, and AWS deployment work, built the same way we run it for our own production platforms. This is the newest role on our roster — ask us directly about scope before a large infrastructure engagement.
When you need DevOps engineers
You're shipping code without an automated pipeline, and every release is a manual, nerve-wracking process.
You want your test suite running automatically before anything merges, not as a step someone remembers to do by hand.
Your app runs on AWS and nobody on the team owns deployment, scaling, or cost as a dedicated responsibility.
You're containerizing an app for the first time and want it done the way we run our own production services.
What they deliver
- CI/CD pipelines that build, test, and deploy automatically
- Dockerized services and the deployment setup around them
- AWS infrastructure work for application hosting and deployment
- Automated test suites (Playwright, Jest) wired into the pipeline, not run manually
Stack and tools
What 40–160 hours looks like
40 hrs / month
Setting up a CI/CD pipeline for an existing app, or containerizing a service that currently runs by hand.
80 hrs / month
Ongoing pipeline and infrastructure work alongside feature development, on the same plan as your full-stack hours.
160 hrs / month
DevOps as a dedicated, full-time function for a team shipping frequently — talk to us directly about what this looks like at this scale.

Subscription vs. hiring vs. freelancer
| Subscription | In-house hire | Freelancer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start time | 48 hours | Weeks to months to hire | Days to weeks |
| Typical cost | Hours used against a monthly plan | $120,000–$180,000/year salary alone, before benefits and recruiting | Hourly, and scope often creeps on infrastructure work |
| Proof available today | Docker, GitLab CI/CD, automated testing (OnSense); AWS deployment (Best Agent Today) | Depends entirely on the hire | Depends entirely on the freelancer |
| Fit for a mature DevOps practice | Honest conversation needed — this is our newest role | Best for complex, dedicated infrastructure needs | Variable |
Why we're being this direct about scope
Most of what's on this page is proven: Docker, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, and automated Playwright and Jest test suites are running in production on the OnSense AI platform today, and AWS deployment work is live on Best Agent Today. What we haven't built yet, as a company, is a large-scale, dedicated DevOps practice — things like infrastructure-as-code at scale or formal incident runbooks aren't something we can point to a case study for. If your need is squarely CI/CD, containerization, or AWS deployment support alongside other engineering work, we're a good fit. If you need a mature, standalone DevOps function from day one, tell us that directly on a scoping call and we'll give you a straight answer rather than stretch to fit.
FAQ
Questions about DevOps engineers
Is DevOps a mature offering for you, or something you're just starting?
We're straightforward about this: DevOps is the newest role on our roster. Our proof today is real — Docker, GitLab CI/CD, and automated Playwright/Jest testing on the OnSense AI platform, and AWS deployment work on Best Agent Today — but it's not yet the depth of our AI, full-stack, or forward deployed work. Tell us your scope on a scoping call and we'll be honest about fit.
Do you work with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform?
Not yet proven in production for us — our current DevOps work is Docker, GitLab CI/CD, and AWS deployment. If your engagement needs Terraform specifically, say so up front and we'll tell you honestly whether we're the right fit today.
Can DevOps hours be mixed with other roles on the same plan?
Yes — most DevOps work we've done so far has been alongside full-stack or AI engineering hours on the same engagement, not as a standalone function.
What does a CI/CD setup actually include?
Automated builds, automated test runs (Playwright for end-to-end, Jest for unit tests) before anything merges, and a deployment step that doesn't depend on someone remembering to run a script.
Do you handle cloud cost optimization?
We haven't published a specific case study on this yet. If a cloud cost audit is your main need, mention it on the scoping call and we'll tell you plainly whether we can help today.
